Ten Things We Do Know

Of all the things there are to know, we know almost nothing about everything (past, present. and future). We are dependent upon our infinite God, who is omniscient, to reveal (i.e., tells us), some of what He knows. “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law” (Dt. 29:29). Therefore, when we face things we don’t understand (which is often), or things we simply don’t know, we must fall back on what we do know; the revealed things. Remember, most of what you do know (or think you know), you know because someone you trusted told you. “Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar” (Rom. 3:4).

  1. We know that God is utterly trustworthy and He is able to show us what we need to know (2 Tim. 3:16-17; Isa. 40:8).
  2. We know that everything is centered in Jesus Christ (Col. 1:16).
  3. We know that He is in control of all things [sovereignty] (Dan. 4:35).
  4. We know that we are valued and loved by God and that He is paying attention to the details of our lives (Matt. 10:29-3; Romans 8:34-39).
  5. We know that God created us (Psalm 139).
  6. We know that God is all-wise (Romans 11:34-36).
  7. We know that God is all-powerful (Pr. 21:1; 2 Chron. 20:6).
  8. We know that God has a plan that includes our good (Gen. 50:20; Rom. 8:28).
  9. We know that even the difficult things are under His direction (Ex. 4:11; Amos 3:6).
  10.   We know that God has promised comfort in our suffering (2 Cor. 12:9; 2 Cor. 1:3-7).
